About

I’m Steve, and I live and work in the Kansas City MO area.  I have had quite a few different jobs over the years, I’ve worked in retail, warehousing, logistics, entertainment, computer, telecom, and broadcasting.  I’ve worked in almost every capacity at one job or another, and I’ve never had a career plan.  I think it’s great to have a career plan, but my original plan was accomplished very early in my life, and I didn’t want to stagnate in what was originally my dream job, so I started taking whatever work in whatever field seemed most interesting and rewarding.  I have had several  ‘favorite jobs’, and I’m in a job right now that I really enjoy, with good friends at work, and good friends after work, and life is good!

I have more hobbies than I should, but I’m never bored and I always have full to-do lists.  I am interested in and involved in collecting unusual or old coin pianos, I enjoy attending Broadway shows, particularly musicals, and particularly on Broadway.  I am an electronics hobbyist and amateur radio operator, and I enjoy computers as long as they don’t run my life.

So I feel like I should explain this blog.  I think it makes the most sense if I explain what it was, what it is, and what I’d like it to be.  In the beginning, my daughter Callie, who makes me proud every day, and I took road trips for fun, and sometimes to pick up a piano somewhere in the country.  We would take pictures and videos and post some of them on the blog so friends could see what we’re up to, and so we could create a little on-line journal of what we’ve been up to.  I’m very satisfied with how that has worked out.  That’s why the blog is called Having Fun On The Road.  We did.  And we still do, and still will, God willing.

As for what the blog is, well, it’s a little stagnant.  I love the archival documentary nature of the old posts, and I really don’t want to lose those.  I’m looking forward to the next trip that I take, or that I take with Callie so I can post stuff here for people to see and comment on.  But I’ve always wanted to fill in with other bloggy material, and I’ve been pretty lazy about it, to be honest.  But I’m hoping to turn over a new leaf, and want to make this blog slightly entertaining, but I won’t lose the documentary nature of getting all of my trips, particularly those with Callie in the blog.  So that’s a little of what the blog is today and what I hope it will be.

Now to fully focus on the future, which is always important, there are exciting things afoot, that will get some exposure in the old blogarino.  Callie is planning to spend almost two months in Peru this summer to work on her Spanish skills.  She is quite serious about the skill sharpening, and we all know how important that is for everyone.  But, by the way—–the trip should also be a blast, and truly a once-in-a lifetime opportunity for her!  So I will probably steal some of her thunder and talk about the preparation for the trip.  Also, in what might be an inherited bad habit, Callie has a blog in which she will document her adventures in Peru, at peru.calliecobb.com.  Take a look if you can, bookmark her site, and give her constructive comments if you’re inclined to.  A little encouragement can really help us all!

So I think that fairly well addresses the topic of ‘About’.  Please consider reading and commenting on either or both of our family blogs.  I’m interested to know what you like, what you don’t like, what you think, and what you’re doing.  Just please keep everything G rated, as I don’t want to contribute to the proliferation of bad feelings or sharp words on the Internet.  If that’s what you like, there are plenty of places to satisfy your cravings for abuse!

Thanks for reading, and hopefully for your participation in this blog, or peru.calliecobb.com.

Hey Steve! I’m finding reading your blog is whole lot more interesting than work! The shabu shabu looked real good, will have to try that one day.

Will check in daily to see what’s going on.
